Sierra was diagnosed with DCIS (some call it "stage zero breast cancer") from her very first mammogram a month before she turned 41. After the painful biopsy they performed a third mammogram, essentially squeezing the cancer. She was rushed through the entire experience, meeting with the Breast Surgeon before an oncologist is standard in this business, and was told that she needed a double mastectomy. When she questioned "Why a double?" the Breast Surgeon said that there "could be something wrong with the right breast in the future" and it's just better to take them off together and get a "great new pair of perky breasts."
Not only was Sierra confused, concerned and questioning all of this and moved on to get a second and third opinion, but this Surgeon got breast cancer herself a year later and has since changed her recommendations. So this terrible timing with this terrible doctor led to Sierra searching for a better solution.
She received exams from oncologists at both Sutter Health and UCSF and ultimately chose UCSF as they are considered one of the top options for breast cancer. Or used to be. While Sierra was meeting with these doctors, which took quite a while as DCIS is considered not urgent, she tried a few alternative healing methods including pulling out root canals (see blog post), off label drugs, plans from a naturopath, mistletoe, Essiac tea, black salve, and more. She was being monitored by ultrasound every few months and when it showed growth she knew it was time for surgery.
The first breast surgery wast at UCSF in May 2020 (lumpectomy in left, lift in right), the second was March 2021 to get clean margins and 30 rounds of radiation were completed in July 2021. When she asked the radiologist to sign a referral for HBOT he said "no, you don't need it." Turns out he was very wrong as the cancer came back in January 2023 and was in her spine, hip, pelvis and she had 2 collapsed lungs with fluid around both.
She started at John Muir as she was done with UCSF forever but also began treatment at the Cancer Center for Healing in February 2023, driving 8 hours each way because she couldn't fly with her compromised lungs. She did this until she could fly a few months later but the commute was very taxing and very expensive and the treatments worked until they didn't. She started at Stanford University for treatment in October 2024.
She has been on Enhertu and now Xeloda since starting there and continuing with her naturopathic treatments, Sierra's lab work has improved and the scans show everything is shrinking. Sierra will be focusing on healing her lungs with her frequency healing machine, energy healing, oncology and off label medicines.
